Dom Dancing with Azadi

Azadi means ‘freedom’ in Persian. Many people from Afghanistan, Iran, Tajikistan and other Persian-speaking places have made Cologne their new home. They love azadi and living in peace with others. Dom is going on tour to Tehran, Kabul and Dushanbe to dance with friends. This time with Azadi Tower in Tehran. Dom knows what Freedom means… The Battle of Worringen in 1288, becoming ‘Free Imperial City’ in 1475, achieving legal equality of Protestant, Jewish, Catholic and other people in 1797, freedom of trade and abolition of guilds in 1798, the first to start revolution in 1848 and in 1918… the latter bringing voting rights to women, then 1945… Long story, and at all times Karneval and dance has striven to be a source of hope for a better future, for unity in diversity, for independent thinking, for freedom. Kick up the heels, People of the World!
